About

Sushi Bar is a gallery project by Maayan Strauss. Located in her studio, the Sushi Bar exist as a sculpture of a gallery that continuously evolves. Each exhibition highlights different questions about art making, the constructs of contemporary art, and its relation to the world.

By borrowing the name of a generic food business that dictates a familiar menu and design, Sushi Bar points to the generic nature of the contemporary art gallery, and aims to test the boundaries of the format. The art gallery needs its white walls as the sushi bar needs its little soy bowls. Both spaces hold an intrinsic sense of luxury, and their adherence to the format is what permits us to legitimize them through tradition, ritual and aesthetics. Sushi Bar inquires about its own format to contemplate the possible evolution of gallery frameworks.

Sushi Bar serves you transcendent bites of fresh art.
